Belay is the collaborative project of JOIA and Monotrope, two seasoned producers and musicians whose combined experience spans over 30 years. The duo first met during a studio session in late 2024 and reconnected in early 2025, where an effortless creative chemistry quickly turned a casual collaboration into a full-fledged partnership. Built on complementary skill sets and a shared intuition for sound design and songwriting, Belay thrives in the space between structure and experimentation. Their music is bold, genre-agnostic, and driven by curiosity, drawing influence from UK garage, 2-step, breaks, house, and techno, while incorporating multicultural textures and forward-thinking production techniques. Beyond music, Belay’s partnership extends into their shared ventures: running the label Doubletake Discs and founding Doubletake Creative, a multidisciplinary agency rooted in sound and artistic identity. These projects reflect the duo’s holistic approach to creativity and their commitment to building lasting infrastructure around their work. Belay crafts music equally at home on the dancefloor or in focused listening environments. With a growing body of work and a clear vision, Belay is establishing itself as a powerful new presence in the underground electronic landscape.
